Major Accountabilities:

  • Monitor key plant performance indicators (heat rate, efficiencies, APC, coal quality effects, availability).
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, abnormalities, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop performance models based on power plant thermodynamic cycles using relevant codes.
  • Recommend operational measures to optimize heat rate, reduce losses, and improve reliability.
  • Assess coal quality impacts (GCV, moisture, ash) and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct studies such as condenser performance, heat balance reviews, and cycle optimization.
  • Lead/support RCAs for performance issues including fouling, slagging, erosion, or efficiency loss.
  • Collaborate with Fuel & Chemistry teams on coal quality, chemistry impacts, and inventory reconciliation.
  • Ensure performance activities comply with safety and environmental standards, supporting emission reduction initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field

Experience:

  • 5–8 years of experience in performance engineering in a coal-fired or thermal power plant (preferred) or in any other power plant other than coal fired
  • Strong understanding of Rankine cycle, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and combustion.
  • Proficiency in performance testing standards (ASME PTCs).
  • Experience with data analysis tools and performance simulation software.
